#comet

Apparently the origin of the word comet is from their description as "long-haired stars" (kometes in greek). Two comets currently are bright enough to photograph, and one bright enough to see in binoculars. At the darkest sites it might be visible to sharp naked eyes.

C/2025 A6 (Lemon) is the brighter one, setting not long after sunset, with a long bluish tail and very green fuzz around the bright nucleus (the coma). 

C/2025 R2 (SWAN) is fainter, appearing higher in the sky toward the south, with the rich star fields of the Milky Way as background. It also sports a bright green coma but only a very faint, narrow tail.

These visitors will fade rapidly in the coming days and weeks, but perhaps other comets will appear.
